Eleven red flags in a dental tourism quote

You do not need to know dentistry to read a quote. You need to know what is missing from it.

Eleven red flags in a dental tourism quote

You will not be able to judge the clinical plan. That is fine — you are not supposed to be able to. What you can judge is how a clinic communicates, what it commits to in writing, and what it does when you ask an awkward question. Those correlate with clinical care more strongly than anything on the website.

In the quote itself

  • No fixture brand named. The single most important component is unnamed. Ask; if the answer stays vague, that is the answer.
  • No crown material named. “Porcelain” is not a material specification.
  • One price for everything, with no line items. You cannot compare it, which is often the point.
  • A treatment plan produced without a scan. Nobody can plan implants from photographs. They can sell them from photographs.
  • No mention of grafting either way. A plan that has not addressed it has not been made by someone looking at your bone.

In how they behave

  • A discount that appears when you hesitate. Clinical pricing does not work like a carpet shop.
  • Pressure to book flights before a plan exists.
  • A deposit requested before you have anything in writing.
  • Answers only ever on WhatsApp, never on headed paper or email.
  • Reluctance to put you in touch with the treating dentist before you travel.
  • A guarantee with no document behind it. “Lifetime guarantee” said in a chat is not a guarantee; it is a sentence.

Things that are not red flags

Some things alarm people and should not. A very large clinic is not a bad sign; volume is why the price works. Technicians doing parts of a hair transplant is normal and legal in Turkey — what matters is which parts and whether you were told. And a price far below your home country is the whole point of the exercise; it is a price far below the local Turkish average that should make you ask what has been removed.

One document to ask for

Ask for the clinic’s health tourism authorisation from the Turkish Ministry of Health. Facilities treating international patients are required to hold one, and a clinic that holds it can send it to you the same day. A clinic that cannot produce it, or does not know what you are asking about, has answered a different and more important question.

This article is general information and is not a diagnosis or a treatment plan. Whether a treatment suits you can only be determined by a clinician who has examined you.
